The OACP test is the comprehensive examination administered by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police as part of the Constable Selection System. This test serves as the primary screening tool for police constable candidates across Ontario, evaluating the essential skills and abilities required for effective police work.
Three-Part Testing Structure
The test process includes multiple components. Part A requires candidates to submit documentation and complete medical examinations verifying they meet hearing and vision standards for police work. Part B is the Sigma Survey for Police Officers (SSPO), a timed cognitive assessment measuring language skills and problem-solving abilities. Part C is the Employment Screening Questionnaire (ESQ2), evaluating personality traits and behavioral tendencies.
The Part B examination specifically tests spelling with 28 words commonly used in police reports, vocabulary recognition and contextual usage, grammar and punctuation rules, and police problem-solving through scenario-based questions. Candidates must answer 74 questions in 35 minutes, requiring efficient time management and quick decision-making.
Current Online Testing System
The OACP test replaced the previous testing system administered by Applicant Testing Services (ATS) when that organization filed for bankruptcy in January 2020. The current system is entirely online, with proctoring through webcam monitoring to ensure testing integrity. Results are not disclosed to candidates directly but are transmitted to police services upon request.
